The Journey to Pickett Concierge: From Homemaker to Helping Families Simplify and Thrive
For over 20 years, I had the incredible blessing of being a homemaker and homeschooling mom to my three children. Our homeschooling journey lasted 10 years, and when my youngest graduated, I found myself at a crossroads. As I humorously pondered, “What do I want to be when I grow up?” I realized the answer was rooted in the skills and passions I had cultivated over decades of homemaking, homeschooling, and family life.
Our homeschooling years weren’t just about lessons at the kitchen table—they were filled with adventure. My husband’s remote career (long before remote work became trendy!) gave us the opportunity to travel in our 5th wheel camper, turning our learning into unforgettable experiences. We explored historical sites, science museums, and landmarks like Washington, D.C., Williamsburg, and many others, bringing textbooks to life. Those moments taught me the importance of meaningful experiences, intentional planning, and the value of creating memories with loved ones.
When our homeschool chapter closed, I discovered the private service industry—a field I hadn’t even known existed. As I researched, I realized there was a real need among busy families and professionals for the very skills I’d honed over the years. I initially worked with a company offering similar services, but I quickly realized I had a vision for something more personalized and impactful.
Then life threw me a curveball: I was diagnosed with breast cancer. During my recovery, I had the opportunity to reflect deeply on what I wanted for my future. By God’s grace, I’m now cancer-free—praise the Lord! That journey of faith and resilience reaffirmed my desire to serve others, and it gave me the clarity and courage to start my own business, Pickett Concierge.
At Pickett Concierge, we aim to bring order to the lives of busy families and professionals so they can focus on what matters most. I’ve poured my heart into this business, combining my love for organization, planning, and logistics with cutting-edge tools to make life simpler for my clients.
I’ve earned certifications through Peter Van Ryder’s Estate Management Solutions and Nines Living, which have equipped me with the skills to manage homes and lives with excellence. I’m implementing platforms like Maple and Nines Home Management to help families organize their lives. These systems allow families to manage their calendars, household information, and maintenance schedules effortlessly. I set these platforms up so my clients can jump right in, giving them peace of mind and more quality time with their loved ones.
At the core of my business is a desire to serve. I understand that after a long day, families want to come home to peace and relaxation, not a list of tasks. Whether it’s organizing schedules, meeting with vendors, or creating personalized systems, I take pride in providing a comprehensive solution that goes beyond one-off services. I build lasting relationships with my clients, understanding their needs so well that I can anticipate and address them proactively.
My faith plays a central role in my journey. I believe in serving others with excellence, compassion, and integrity, reflecting the values that have guided my family and me for years. I’m blessed to be supported by my wonderful husband, Mike, and inspired by my children and grandchildren, who remind me of the joy in creating a life filled with love and connection.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue growing Pickett Concierge. I envision helping more families experience the freedom and ease that comes from having their homes and lives well-managed. The road to starting and growing Pickett Concierge has certainly not been smooth, but each challenge has shaped me and strengthened my resolve. When I decided to transition from over 20 years as a homemaker and homeschooling mom into building a business, I faced a steep learning curve. While I had a strong foundation in organization, planning, and managing a household, I had to learn how to translate those skills into a professional service that could serve busy families and professionals effectively.
Shortly after I began pursuing this path, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The diagnosis came as a shock, and the subsequent surgery and treatments forced me to step back and re-evaluate my priorities. It was an incredibly challenging time for me and my family, but it also gave me the opportunity to reflect deeply on my goals and the vision I had for this business. By God’s grace, I am now cancer-free, and that journey has given me a new perspective on resilience, faith, and the importance of serving others with purpose and compassion.
Another challenge has been navigating the entrepreneurial world, particularly as a solo business owner. Building a client base, marketing my services, and managing the operational side of the business required me to step out of my comfort zone. There have been moments of doubt and setbacks, but I’ve learned to embrace these experiences as opportunities to grow.
I’ve also encountered the challenge of educating potential clients about the private service industry. Many people are unfamiliar with the comprehensive support a service like Pickett Concierge can offer, so I’ve worked to communicate how my services can transform their daily lives, helping them find more time to focus on what matters most.
Despite the obstacles, I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything. Every challenge has been a stepping stone, teaching me perseverance, adaptability, and the value of staying true to my mission. I’m excited about the future and grateful for the opportunity to serve my clients in ways that bring them peace and joy.
